Today I saw a young man die
He was barely 19 years old
I ran for the blood
I stood back and watched
As they pumped and they clamped and they sewed
He was shot from the back
The bullet went right through his heart
A balloon breathed his lungs to life
His blood all over the floor
His chest cut apart
There was nothing anyone could do
His sister screamed her tears to the sky
His mother rocked his pulseless body on her thighs
I stood back and watched
This was my first
Cold and stiff he lay
The death in the trauma bay
